Wolf Manor's reinvigorated production imagines the play set transiently throughout history. As Director, Dylan Brenton's (The Expanse, 12 Monkeys, Dauntless City Theatre, Perchance Theatre) production digs through the sands of time we uncover humanities demands for leadership and revolution while exploring the duality of public virtue and private vice within all of us. Five actors fluently build the world of over 30 characters who demonstrate the impact the actions of very few have on the lives of many. As Wolf Manor’s eighth production since 2014, CAESAR excavates this play from it's history and ferociously tackles the Shakespearean epic with contemporary significance.
The set design by Toronto visual artist Tessa Hallett will incorporate mixed media artistic practice and Wolf Manor’s iconic use of transient and suggestive pieces to establish a unique, yet accessible world grounded in the rich and imagistic text. Unified with Elizabeth Elliott’s dynamic and subtle lighting, this semi-immersive, found venue production will bear undoubtable beauty.
Wolf Manor has assembled some of the city’s finest emerging actors to fill out the tight, inclusively cast ensemble. Megan Miles (Shakespeare BASH’d, Shakey-Shake and Friends) stars as Brutus, opposite Maddalena Vallecchi Williams (Cinderella, National Theatre School of Canada) as Cassius, two friends whose love and loyalty are pushed to the limit as they carry out on of history’s most dangerous plots. Melanie Leon (AntiSocial, Village Playhouse, member of Factory Theatre Mechanicals) doubles as both Julius Caesar and Portia. Kevin Kashani (7 Stories at Hart House Theatre) is the charismatic Marc Antony, and Felix Beauchamp ((Le Théâtre Français de Toronto, Clay & Paper Theatre, Toronto Festival of Clowns) rounds out the cast as Casca, Octavius Caesar & Calpurnia.
Wolf Manor Theatre Collective’s CAESAR is brimming with fresh young talent, in a tight, raw production that will leave you breathless. Don’t miss this adventurous staging of history’s most famous assassination.
